Advancing disability polices after the EU Accessibility Act

Monday, February 26, 2018 European Parliament (Room A5E3), Brussels, Belgium

Invitation to join the next meeting on the topic of “Advancing disability polices after the EU Accessibility Act”. It will take place in the European Parliament (Room A5E3) on 26 February 2018, 13:30 – 15:30.

Across Europe, disability resulting from chronic diseases still cause a substantial burden on citizens, healthcare systems, societies and economies. RMDs alone are responsible for almost 30 % of Years lived with disability according to the Global Burden of disease study. In this area, the EU has a stronger role to play even beyond the current discussions around the EU Accessibility Act. Among the policies are the EU disability strategy and possibly even the eventual adoption of the Equal Treatment Directive that would include provisions against discrimination on the basis of disability.

The aim of the meeting is to discuss the barriers that still exist for people with disabilities across Europe and the contribution of the EU to overcome these through effective policies at EU level. Expected to participate in the discussion are the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, the European Disability Forum, and other stakeholders.
