In 1825 at the age of 16 Louis Braille invented in the institute for the blind in Paris the braille script and started using it with his schoolmates.
Since then, this ingenious script has been the basis of communication, education, professional success, social participation and personal happiness for many generations of blind people.
Blind people and their associations around the world are celebrating this in a very special way in 2025.
The European Blind Union (EBU) and the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV) collect contributions about braille.
We invite individuals, groups or organisations to create artistic, personal or documentary contributions such as videos, podcasts, texts, photos or graphics about braille.
These can be videos in which a text is read aloud in braille or your own texts with testimonials, stories or poems about braille. Art projects with braille or pictures made from braille characters are just as possible as songs, radio plays, learning methods, games, software for braille or tips for everyday life with braille.
The aim is to collect 365 entries, one for each day of the year 2025. Each month, the EBU will honour one entry with a prize of €100. All contributions will be published in the livingbraille.eu forum and distributed via other channels.
We invite you to share them with the hashtag #Braille200.
