Meet Andrea Bila, the new EBU European Project Officer

Andrea is originally from Slovakia but has been on the move since she was a teenager, thanks to her parents’ academic work abroad. She’s lived in India and the US and eventually put down roots in Paris, where she earned her PhD in social and political sciences at Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle. Her research focused on how Muslim communities organise socially and politically, and how institutions in Great Britain and France respond to their presence.

Before joining EBU, Andrea managed programmes at a Paris day centre for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers, working on projects that improved access to healthcare and protected fundamental rights. She also freelanced as an external evaluator for the European Commission, reviewing proposals for Horizon Europe funding programmes.

Andrea’s been deeply involved in human rights and social justice through her work with organisations like Open Society Foundation, Islamic Human Rights Commission and Humanity in Action. She’s led projects that promote diversity, equality and democratic values – causes she’s truly passionate about.

When she’s not working, you’ll probably find Andrea hiking, cycling, or enjoying classical and minimalist music, which helps her recharge and stay inspired.
