EBU has collaborated with the European Central Bank (ECB) since the (€) euro design phase in the 1990s. This was to ensure that accessibility features on the coins and banknotes were fit for purpose.
The ECB regularly consults the EBU and did so during the development of the second series of euro banknotes, the Europa series. This collaboration is ongoing and representatives from the ECB have visited the EBU offices in 2023 to discuss future updates to the currency and ensure continued and improved accessibility.
